Westover Large Animal is an independent equine and farm veterinary practice based in Hainford, Norfolk.
Westover Vets was established in 1896 in North Walsham, since this time the practice has grown dramatically from a traditional mixed practice to a large independent veterinary business with multiple sites.
Since 2010 the business has diverged into a small animal and large animal entities to offer clients tailored veterinary care. Westover Large Animal aims to providing a full range of equine services to the professional and recreational owner across the Norfolk and North Suffolk maintaining the highest standard of care for every horse whilst retaining the traditional feel and direct vet interaction clients have come to expect.
We operate from a purpose-built clinic boasting diagnostic, clinical and in-patient facilities, enabling our team vets, nurses and support staff to provide dedicated care for all patients throughout their lives. Whether it be routine ambulatory care, diagnostic tests and imaging, reproductive and stud work or surgery, Westover Large Animal is uniquely placed to treat all manner of cases.
Our vets can regularly be found providing veterinary and emergency services at affiliated and community competitions across a range of disciplines including racing, eventing, dressage, show-jumping and showing, allowing them to bring their knowledge of these disciplines back to their work with our client base. Alongside this experience, we are proud that our in-house team includes vets with experience in a wide range of fields including dentistry, reproduction, medicine & imaging solidifying our reputation as a highly regarded equine practice.
From elite competing racehorses and eventers, to leisure horses and retired companion animals, we wholeheartedly commit to providing the best possible service to every equid in our care.

Sustainable Business:
Here at Westover Large Animal, we’re committed to reducing the environmental impacts of our business. To facilitate greening up our act we joined Investors in the Environment, a nationally recognised accreditation scheme, in 2019. Since then, we have made savings to electricity use, water use and stopped using heating oil. We have converted 14 hectares of surrounding unproductive farmland into a nature reserve with wildflowers, hedging and new woodland. The next big project is solar panels.
We have a ‘Green Group’ consisting of one member from each team of the practice, Veterinary Surgeon & Clinical Director – Ben Crowter, Senior Veterinary Surgeon – Ann Kent, Receptionist – Jazmine Notley and Nurse Technician – Polly Papworth.
We were pleased to achieve the Silver award for the first two years and are now working towards Green accreditation. In 2022 we were delighted to win the ‘Natural Environment Champion’ award in recognition of the steps we have taken to support and enhance biodiversity.
