Tom C L Hume BVetMed CertAVP MRCVS
Director & Veterinary Surgeon
I moved to Norfolk from Kent in 2005 and discovered the place I wanted to make my home. I have worked for all that time at Westover Vets and have developed a passion for livestock businesses and cows! In 2014 I completed my certificate in advanced veterinary practice which focused on equine reproduction and dentistry. In 2018 I was lucky enough to be accepted on to the “Developing Beef Expertise” program run by AHDB with the aim of improving the depth of knowledge of vets and consultants to the beef industry. Outside of work, my hobbies include pretending I’m a proper farmer with a small herd of cows and watching and very occasionally playing sport. I also enjoy all aspects of food – growing, cooking and eating! I also work with a fantastic youth charity called Operation Reach which aims to help A level students reach their full potential.

Veterinary Surgeon
I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, qualifying with a distinction in my equine elective, and animal husbandry and veterinary hygiene. I started working for Westover in 1993. I’ve always been passionate about animals and equine work, completing my certificate in Equine Practice in 2000, and continuing to push myself academically and professionally. I’m a senior veterinary surgeon at Great Yarmouth Racecourse and work at Fakenham Races, local point-to-points, and the Royal Norfolk Show. I also enjoyed being one of the vets at the London 2012 Olympic Games covering all the equine disciplines. In 2013, I was fortunate to be sponsored to go to the International Camelid Conference and see camelid practice in Oregon, USA to further my camelid knowledge and I have been selected to volunteer at the Gambian Horse and Donkey Trust in late 2025.
As a horse owner and rider, I appreciate how much these amazing animals mean to us and that veterinary advice needs to be individually tailored and that we must not forget to ‘treat’ the whole animal. I enjoy all aspects of veterinary work, especially performance animals and reproduction.
I am a BEVA leg up coach and qualified Mental Health First Aider.
In my spare time when not with the family, I compete my Lusitano in working equitation and affiliated dressage and run a small flock of sheep and peafowl.

I grew up in rural Essex/Suffolk where I developed my competitive roots for equestrian sport, being a keen member of Pony Club teams and Junior British Eventing, competing up to 2* level. I studied at the Royal Veterinary College, London and graduated in 2005. I worked in a mixed practice in Warwickshire initially before moving to Norfolk in 2007 and have spent several years in private Equine practice and charity work as a senior vet for Redwings Horse Sanctuary. I have been an FEI treating vet for British Eventing and have experience in all aspects of Equine medicine and Surgery. I joined the Westover team in 2018 where I enjoy the variety of work. I have a strong interest in dentistry and surgery for which I am studying advanced qualifications.
Karoliina Rissanen DVM, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
I graduated in 2019 from the Estonian University of Life Sciences. After a year in mixed practice in my home country Finland, and since I have always been passionate about horse work, I was lucky to gain experience completing a 12-month rotating internship at Helsinki University Equine Hospital. There I became interested in equine internal medicine, emergency medicine and critical care. After my internship, I was thrilled to get a job at Westover and move to the beautiful Norfolk countryside. I have completed a certificate in advanced veterinary practice while working for Westover. I really enjoyed the courses related to equine internal medicine. When I’m not working I enjoy my time with my husband Mikko, dog Vito, a silly Weimaraner, and two cuddly cats Teodor and Lenuccia. You can most likely find me at the beach walking my dog. I also enjoy water sports and horseback riding.

Growing up in Norfolk I grew a passion for working with livestock through working on a local dairy farm in my school holidays. I then spent five years studying at the University of Nottingham which included a variety of placements, from working on a racing yard to lambing under Scafell Pike. Upon graduating in 2022 I took the opportunity to work for Westover Large Animal, greatly enjoying the variety of both farm and equine work. When I’m not working I can often be found outdoors, either training my spaniel Roux or riding in the Norfolk countryside.
Callum Haseler MA(Cantab) VetMB MRCVS

I joined Westover Vets initially in 2019, and returned in 2024 following an internship at Rossdales in Newmarket and a further year in general practice in beautiful Dorset. I have a particular interest in teeth and am currently working towards a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Equine Dentistry. On the farm side, I enjoy all aspects of obstetric medicine, and supporting our large and diverse range of smallholders, from goats to wallabies! In my free time, I enjoy cooking, gardening and spending time with friends and family. I am a keen runner and, as a former university cyclist, enjoy any time outside, whether on foot, bike or horseback!
Kirsty Hibbs MA VetMB MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
I grew up on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and spent many a happy hour exploring Thetford Forest on the back of a much-loved Welsh Section D. I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2019 and spent my first 18 months as a first-opinion vet in beautiful North Norfolk. Having decided that sleep was overrated, I undertook a two-year internship at Rossdales Equine Hospital, performing countless general anaesthetics, diagnostic imaging, lameness investigation and coordinating in-patient care, plus encountering the weird and wonderful in a busy emergency setting. This was followed by a really enjoyable six months as a stud vet, working with some of the highest quality broodmares and stallions at two eminent studs in Newmarket. More recently, I’ve been working in the New Forest bringing high quality affordable veterinary care to the stable/field-side. I have a passion for lameness, poor performance and the interaction between horse, rider and tack, which prompted research into and publication of a paper investigating the link between crooked tail carriage and lameness. However, perhaps my favourite part of my job is re-training needle-phobic patients to a place of calmness and optimism (no more sleepless nights before their vaccinations!) My family have a farm in the area, and it has given me a real appreciation of the stresses and strains experienced by local farmers. I’m really excited to rediscover some farm animal medicine as I’ve always loved a good lambing! When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, exploring the great outdoors, cooking, travelling and skiing!
Tim Down
Veterinary Surgeon
I have recently relocated to Norfolk from Leicestershire after completing an internship at Chine House Veterinary Hospital and spending 18 months working within a local ambulatory practice. I graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2023 and have developed a particular interest in equine sports medicine, colic investigation and dentistry. Outside of work, I like all things sporty. You’ll find me watching F1 or rugby and training for an upcoming powerlifting event. At my most recent competition, I lifted the equivalent of a Welsh A pony or Dexter cow!
Annalise Gray BSc(Hons) BVetMed MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
I grew up in Norfolk and spent much of my time with my own horses, competing in dressage from a young age. I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College and have worked in the veterinary industry for over ten years. Before qualifying as a veterinary surgeon, I trained and worked as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. Since graduating, I’ve enjoyed the variety and challenge that large animal veterinary practice offers, and value the opportunity to work closely with owners to achieve the best outcomes for their animals.
Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors with my partner and our dog, exploring the countryside, camping, and trying new food wherever we go
Veterinary Nurses & Technicians
Heidi Smith REVN
Registered Equine Veterinary Nurse
Originally from Cambridgeshire I have always had an interest in horses. I started my career as a nursing assistant at Rossdales Equine Hospital where I worked for ten years and qualified in 2007.
From there I worked in a mixed practice gaining experience in farm work, but the love of horses was too strong, so I returned to an Equine environment where I worked in an Equine Hospital down in Pembrokeshire.
I moved to Norfolk in 2011 after meeting my Husband and I joined Westover in 2012. I love all aspects of nursing and assisting the vets but especially like bandaging and wound care.
Outside of work my two daughters take up most of my time. I enjoy walking my two English Springer Spaniels (Colonel & Cash) and spending days at the beach hut in Cromer.

Having lived in Norfolk all my life I grew up loving anything that involved horses, this led me to Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Working alongside the vets at Redwings inspired me to pursue a career in the veterinary industry where I enjoy all aspects of the job, particularly equine and cattle work. In my spare time you will find me walking my terrier around the farm and my crazy pointer exploring somewhere in the distance.

Alison Horne
Pharmacy Supervisor & Large Animal Receptionist
I joined Westover Vets in January 2006, I was only covering for couple of weeks but here I am 18 years later!
I have seen many changes over the years and when I first joined, we were in a portacabin in North Walsham and had a diary and pencil to book appointments with, we only used a computer to book vet’s work.
Outside of work, I enjoy meeting up with friends and having a bottle of red wine. Often in good weather, I will be found out on the broads as crew member (for Husband) on our boat enjoying the wildlife.
At home I have 2 tortoises that I rehomed several years ago. Apparently, they are spoilt!
I have 2 Grandchildren and am waiting excitedly for the arrival of a new grandchild in the new year.
